GRAND HYATT BAHA MAR BAHAMAS REVIEW

GRAND HYATT BAHA MAR BAHAMAS REVIEW +
THE $400 NORDSTROM GIVEAWAY CONTINUES…

I just returned from my Mother/Daughter Senior Spring Break trip from the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas. If you’re a regular here at SSS I think it’s pretty obvious that I love going to the beach or anywhere that’s warm for that matter. I’m excited to start focusing on my travels more and sharing them with each of you. Today I am happy to say that my five-night, six-day stay with my oldest daughter and her best friends from high school at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar was a total success. Originally we were going to travel to Cancun. But with some recent happenings in the news we all decided to look into other options since we weren’t going to be traveling with our husbands for this trip. Jamaica, Punta Cana and Costa Rica were close runner-ups but eventually the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar won the majority vote. The Baha Mar Resort is divided into three sections: the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar (where I stayed), the SLS Baha Mar, and the Rosewood Baha Mar will be opening June 2018. Below are the highlights of my trip…

CHECK-IN:
We arrived Sunday afternoon and our rooms were all ready. So that we weren’t tempted to purchase items from the mini bar in the room (we all know how expensive that can be) on the way to the hotel we asked our driver to stop at the grocery store. We purchased a few items for our stay: lemons, limes, water bottles, fruit, nuts and snacks. We had already purchased vodka and tequila at the duty-free shop at the airport. Even though our rooms were ready we did have to wait like 20 minutes for our luggage to arrive.

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Bahamas Review RESTAURANTS/SERVICE/POOLS:
We arrived at the hotel pretty late in the afternoon and went to what I call a “dirty dinner”. This means we didn’t shower or change clothes after our flight and went straight to eat with our daughters at Katsuya. The girls of course decided to get cute though because this was after all their Senior Trip. Katsuya was very good my favorite items on the menu were the spicy edemame and the crispy spicy tuna.

I ordered room service each morning because breakfast honestly is my favorite meal of the day. But my daughter and the other moms either ate breakfast at the club (which was included with their room rate) or at the Swimming Pig. One night I did eat at the Swimming Pig late night and it was very good. I loved the chips and guacamole and the tacos. The night we were supposed to go to the Italian Restaurant Fila we were just too tired from our big boat trip all day so we made a group decision not to go. But I heard it was very good. Some moms just ate dinner during happy hour at the club that night.

Each day by the pool we opted to rent the Cabanas. For two days we were at the pool with the cave and aquarium inside. You could jump off the waterfalls at this pool and into the water below. Our cabanas were by the waterfall and this pool is the closest to the beach. For the last day we were at a more serene pool closer to the hotel. I actually preferred this pool because there were less little kids running around and I could hear the awesome music coming from the SLS pool as well that was super fun.

My favorite drink by the pool was a vodka mojito and my favorite food was the hummus with veggies. There also were food trucks on the way to the beach right before you get to the pier. The quality of the food was very good and the prices at the food trucks were amazingly low especially compared to the food at the hotel. My favorite thing to eat at the food trucks was the ahi tuna bowl. We also never did made it by Cleo Mediterraneo but I heard that this was very good as well.

The Privilege Pool is the only adult only pool at both of the hotels (the one I was referring to above with the fun music). But, the best pool for the kids had this massive cave with an aquarium inside. It had waterfalls and you could jump off the waterfalls into the water below. They also had a very shallow end at the pool for the younger kids.

Overall the service at the hotel was very good and I was pleased.

The beach area was quite big in size. And there were a lot of chairs set up as well. The sand was very soft, white, and clean and it wasn’t too crowded. There also were waiters taking drink orders on the beach as well which was very nice. The water here is ice blue and oh so gorgeous. One day we took a boat excursion and I went snorkeling. We saw lots of pretty fish and the water actually wasn’t too cold once you got all the way in and used to it.

The last night we had a sunset dinner and party on the beach from 6:30-11pm and we literally danced the night away. It was a highlight of the trip for sure.

My friends and I played craps the first night. Had no idea what we were doing. One mom borrowed $20 from me and then on the next hand won $180 so she shared the wealth and we all then left lol. The casino is huge, very clean, not too intimidating and actually not as smoky as most Las Vegas Casinos I’ve been too.

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Bahamas Review DANCE CLUB:
The kids loved going to the dance club called Bond Nightclub. After I danced so much at our beach party I was done and never actually made it to there. But I loved going to the Monkey Bar and the Piano Bar late night instead. They also had a huge Sports Bar where all the guys loved watching March Madness Games.

I absolutely loved this trip with my daughter and making such fabulous memories with her and the other moms. It truly is a beautiful property and everything from the lobby, to the casino, to the pools, beach and lastly, my room were all just gorgeous. They didn’t cut corners any with this resort. And I for one will definitely be back!

We did hire a driver to go off property one night and ate dinner at The Poop Deck (I know funny name but it was good). And afterwards we let our seniors talk us into letting them go dancing at Senior Frogs. This reminded me of when I went dancing on my Senior Spring Break at Carlos & Charlie’s as well. The girls had a great time dancing. But because it is located right on the water and there was an odor from the conch that seemed to fill the bar throughout the night. The moms could not seem to get over this smell and we were definitely counting the minutes until we could leave.
